Spiritual Sparks: You’re an Original — Why Compare?
Worth more than you think
You’re worth more than you think
In 1989, a man in Philadelphia bought a painting at a flea market for four dollars. He wasn’t interested in the artwork. He just liked the frame. When he took the painting apart to fix a tear, he discovered something unexpected hidden behind it: a folded document.
It turned out to be an original copy of the Declaration of Independence, later sold for over two million dollars.
Something of extraordinary value had been there all along, concealed behind something ordinary, even disposable. We often do something similar in our own lives.
We spend time polishing the “frame,” how we appear, how we are perceived, how well we fit expectations, while the most valuable part of who we are remains hidden, sometimes even from ourselves.
Note: Spiritual Sparks will take a brief two-week pause for the holidays. I look forward to reconnecting with you afterward.

Authenticity is alignment
Authenticity is when the life we live on the outside reflects who we truly are on the inside. This alignment is not just about how we feel in a given moment, but something deeper: a sense that our lives are in sync with who we truly are.
Authenticity is uncovering what is true within you, not becoming someone else.
When there is a gap between our inner world and our outer life, we feel it. When those two come into harmony, we experience clarity, wholeness, and peace. Authenticity begins when we stop living from the “frame” and return to the original self.
The drift away from ourselves
If authenticity is so natural, why is it so difficult to live it? We live in a world that constantly pulls at us. Expectations and pressure to fit in begin to shape how we present ourselves.
We adjust, adapt, and refine our image, sometimes so gradually that a gap forms between our inner life and how we live.
Over time we may no longer be sure what is ours and what has been shaped by others. The result is disconnection from who we really are.
Returning to the original you
The path back to authenticity starts with a simple question: What do I truly want? Not what is expected or admired, but what is deeply and honestly mine. It might be a longing to create, to live with greater simplicity, or to pursue work that feels meaningful.
Beneath the surface of our lives lies a core desire that, when we listen to it, begins to shape our choices and our actions.
Slowly, our lives begin to realign with what matters most, bringing them into harmony with what is true within. Even the decision to begin is a step toward returning to the original you.

❓1 Question
Where in your life do you feel a gap between who you are inside and how you are living?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
During an interview for a prestigious position, a candidate was asked a difficult question. Rather than deflect or guess, he simply said, “I don’t know.” He left the interview convinced that he had failed. Who gets hired after admitting they don’t know something?
But he did get the job.
When he later asked why, he was told, “We are looking for someone who tells the truth. If a person can say, ‘I don’t know,’ in an interview, that’s who we want as our Director.”
In a world that often rewards polish and performance, it can feel risky to live this way, to let go of the “frame” and speak from who we truly are. But in the end, it is the original that is always worth more.
Until next time,
Wishing you a week of clarity, courage, and the freedom to be who you truly are,
